Connie Nelson - Theatre Instructor

CONNIE NELSON received her training at Southern Methodist University in the Professional Actor Training Program and has enjoyed an award winning, 30-year professional career in stage, television, and film.

Her New York and Regional theater appearances include leading roles with The Acting Company, National Alliance for Musical Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, American Repertory Theater, Arena Stage, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Pittsburgh CLO, Walnut Street Theatre, Dallas Theater Center, Theatre Three, Shakespeare Festival of Dallas, and the Guthrie Theater.

Guest starring television appearances include Law & Order, Walker, Texas Ranger, and Guiding Light, as well as her recurring role as Detective Guinevere McGorry in the HBO dramatic series OZ.

Among her film credits, Connie stars in the feature film Late Bloomers (Official Selection - Sundance Film Festival) for which she received the Lone Star Film & Television Award for Best Actress in a Feature Film.

Other awards include The Dallas Observer Best Actress (twice recipient), and nominations for the Leon Rabin (Othello), the Barrymore (Rags), and the Cincinnati Entertainment Award for her portrayal of Shawna DuChamps in Bruce Graham’s world premiere of Coyote on a Fence.

Connie’s directing experience includes a New York production of Harold Pinter's The Dumb Waiter and being called upon as "show doctor" to assist in integrating the ensemble of the national tour of American Jukebox. She also wrote and directed Voices for Dallas Theater Center's Festival of the Unexpected.

Applying her teaching talents in a variety of settings, Connie taught acting at the KD Studio Conservatory of Film and Dramatic Arts, conducted improvisation workshops for at-risk teens in a NYC Outreach program, and currently provides private acting classes for groups and individuals. Additionally, she has 5 years' experience as a paraprofessional working with children with special needs on the spectrum of autism at The Gillen Brewer School in Manhattan, working one-on-one and in classroom environments.
