There will be an open class at the end of the Fall session for invited guests. Students age 4+ will be invited to participate in the MSTDA Dance Concert in the Spring.

Age requirements are specified and must be met by the first class of each semester. Students do not move up in the middle of a semester. If they meet the age requirement for the next semester, they will move up then. Some students may be placed in another age group at the discretion of MSTDA. This is done based on ability and teacher evaluation.

Little Dancers & Ballet

Attire for Little Dancers - Little Dancers should wear comfortable clothing to move in. No shoes required, students will dance bare foot.

Attire for Pre-Ballet - For ballet, girls should wear leotard, tights, ballet shoes and hair up; boys should wear sweat pants or boy's dance pants with a fitted t-shirt and ballet shoes. Any color is allowed.

Little Dancers Walking/18 mos–3 yrs

Little movers and shakers will enjoy dancing movement, music rhythm, games and stories in this fun class. Basic locomotive movement and age-appropriate developmental skills and concepts are all incorporated in this lively program. For little boys and girls with their parent/caregivers - come on - let's dance! This is not a separation class.

Pre-Ballet 2–5 yrs

Children learn basic ballet vocabulary and technique in preparation for moving up in the ballet curriculum. Our 3+ Pre-Ballet program is a separation class, no parent/caregiver participation. The 2+ program is drop off optional.

Ballet 1 5–6+ yrs

Students will learn basic classical ballet technique, vocabulary and class format. Students will do barre and center work that develops strength, body alignment, flexibility, gracefulness and musicality.

Tap & Jazz

Attire- Students should wear a leotard or fitted shirt with tights, leggings, jazz pants or sweat pants. Tap or jazz shoes should be worn according to class type. Long hair should be pulled back.

Pre-Steps 4 yrs +

A class combining ballet, tap and jazz for our youngest dancers. All three styles are the foundation for dance and musical theatre. It is a great class to introduce your dancer to all techniques.

Jazz 6 yrs +

Students will learn beginner jazz technique, terms and steps, and choreography. Jazz develops strength, musicality, body alignment and flexibility.

Hip Hop & Capoeira

Attire - No dresses or skirts in Hip Hop or Capoeira, students will be doing some acrobatics. For all Hip Hop classes, students should wear clean sneakers. During the winter, please pack shoes not worn outside. For Capoeira, students will be bare foot; no tights, socks or shoes.

Beginner Hip Hop 6+ yrs

Encourages creative expression and potential through hip hop dance technique and athletic dance while jamming to the latest beats. This class combines Hip Hop, African dance, acrobatics, and high energy dance styles sure to please your active child!

Capoeira/Family Capoeira 2 yrs +

Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial Art that incorporates dance movements, acrobatics, and music (both singing and percussion). Students will develop a variety of skills including musicality, flexibility, balance, focus, and discipline. A challenging but fun class that boosts children's confidence and motivates them in a supportive cooperative environment. Family Capoeira and toddler Capoeira is for children and adults to play Capoeira together!

Capoeira Ages 5+

An integrated class of capoeira and Afro-Brazilian drumming. The first 45 minutes of class is capoeira, a Brazilian Martial Art as described above but in a more advanced class for older students. The last 30 minutes is a fun, basic drumming class giving students the opportunity to learn the foundations of Afro-Brazilian, Capoeira-style hand drumming on a djembe. Traditional rhythms are taught in this culture rich art form.

Other

Playmakers® Arts Exploration Class Ages 2+

A new offering based on the Playmakers® summer camp curriculum. A drop off class for ages 2+ where students are guided through activities exploring all areas of the arts - dance, creative drama/play, music, singing and crafts. Class meets once a week for two hours.
