PRODUCTION THEATRE

 

Children’s Theatre Grade 3-7

Summer Make-A-Musical Production Ages 7+: With a focus on the development of original new works, the summer children’s theatre, open to ages 7+, gives students the experience of working on all aspects of a musical production (acting, singing, dance choreography, and line memorization) just like our spring semester. Participants will work with a team of staff members including a Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Choreographer, Composer/Writer, Costume Designer, Set & Props. Rehearsals after casting could be any or all of the 4:30-7pm time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon/evenings. Everyone that joins will get a part in the show! Rehearsals are twice weekly and performance in August. Attendance is mandatory due to short semester.

Junior Fall Musical Production Grades 5-9: Students perform in a musical theatre production in December that starts rehearsing in September. All students who have participated in at least two Spring Musicals or have comparable outside performance experience can enroll and will be cast in the musical. Students work on all aspects of a musical production (acting, singing, choreography, memorization and more) with a team of staff members including a Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Choreographer, Costume Designer, Set & Props. Thursday rehearsals could be any or all of the 4:30-7pm time frame each week. The week of tech rehearsals and performances are mandatory for all students. Auditions take place in late August. Participation in the Fall Semester Theatre Class is encouraged, but not required, to participate in the Spring Musical. 

Fall Semester : Be part of Roosevelt Island's unique Children's Theatre experience. Learn the basics including improv, theatre games, basic scene study, storytelling & performance skills in a fun and supportive environment. Students choose Tuesday or Wednesday and attend for one hour in the Fall based on grade. Auditions for the Spring Children's musical will be held in November. You MUST be registered for the Fall session to be cast in the Spring musical. This is a popular class, so register early! Tuition for the full year, Fall/Spring semester, is discounted when paid in full at the beginning of the Fall.

Spring Production: Students perform in a production in the Spring. All students who participated in the Fall and are registered for Spring are cast into the Spring production and begin working on all aspects of a musical production (acting, singing, dance choreography, and line memorization) with a team of staff members including a Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Choreographer, Costume Designer, Set & Props. Rehearsals after casting could be any or all of the 4:30-6:30pm time frame on their chosen day of the week. More


Teen Theatre Grade 8-12

Fall Drama Production: After introduction classes, students audition and begin rehearsals for the Winter Play Production scheduled for the end of January. Rehearsals will be held on Mondays from 6-9pm and Wednesdays from 7-9pm (occasionally a 6pm call) for both Fall and Spring Productions. . In addition, we plan on holding a few intensive Saturdays (2 or 3 at most), where we would focus on a big chunk of work to knock out and get completed. We may hold rehearsals if needed over school holidays for those students who are in town. for both Fall and Spring Productions.

Spring Musical Production: In December, students register and audition to begin rehearsals in February (Monday/Wednesday schedule as mentioned above after January) for the Spring Musical with a team of staff members, Director/Music Director/Assistant Director/Choreographer.
Tuition for the Fall/Spring productions are discounted when paid in full for both at the beginning of the Fall. Students may perform in one or both, a play and/or musical. More


Adult Production Workshop

Auditions are held in September for this adult production class. Students will work with a team of staff members, Director/Music Director/Choreographer, to stage a production in late February or early March. Registration is only in the fall. This is an audition based class. After auditions, those cast will be required to pay the $100 tuition fee to accept their role. Rehearsals are held on Saturday from 10am-4pm with a one hour lunch break.

MSTDA Holiday Multigenerational Musical Workshop
-not offered in Fall 2023-

Did you know that Charles Dickens visited Roosevelt Island just before writing "A Christmas Carol?" Students rehearse every Thursday and Sunday for a brand new Musical Theatre developmental production inspired by "A Christmas Carol" - a reinvention of the traditional show and written by our very own Jonathan Fadner. Bring back the ghosts of Roosevelt Island in a show that is current and relevant to today's issues and our international RI community, while driving home messages of equality, human connection and compassion. Roles are designed with you in mind!
Students sing, act, and dance while continuing to develop this new musical! Beginning in the Fall, participants work with a team of staff members (Director, Music Director, and Composer) readying them for a holiday production. Registration for this class is only in the Fall. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.


Adult Cabaret

Discover new repertoire and rediscover your all-time favorites in our Main Street Theatre Cabaret Class! Get one-on-one coaching with "show biz" pros to develop songs to a performance level, whether you want to perform at our new open mic event at PANORAMA ROOM NYC, go out for auditions, or simply enjoy the thrill of singing. Explore storytelling through song. With the open format of this class, you will have a chance to bring your own songs or instructors can find the perfect song choice for you from the limitless canon of Broadway, Hollywood, hit songs, classics and T.V. All levels welcome.


Adult Improv

A theatre improv class that teaches thinking on your feet, comedic timing, and creating new and interesting situations on the fly. We play short form improv games that eventually lead to long form games. Lots of laughs included! No preparation needed, open to all levels.
